Tuesday - 10/14/08

Hey Guys. It's Les posting this. We decided to do a few things on Tuesday, and wanted everyone to know. We will use this blog to communicate with everyone about Tuesday nights for those who don't make it. We are going to let whoever teaches that particular night be responsible for posting the updates and highlights of the night on the blog. So here it goes for 10/14/08 :: Topic : We continued to study RADICAL. We looked at RADICAL ABANDONMENT.

• we talked about how distracted we are by accumulating more and more "stuff"
• we talked about having a "childlike" faith and how as adults we have forsaken many of these principles (simple, in need of a leader, obedient by nature, etc)
• we looked at the story of Bartimaeus in Mark 10: 46-52. Compared to the Rich Young Man - Mark 10: 17-31 - the heart of Bartimaeus was so ready to follow Jesus that when called by Jesus, he jumped up, threw his only possession to the side (cloak) and ran to Jesus. He knew that Jesus was all he needed.

Conclusions/Application : We decided a few things that would challenge us.

1. What are we going to give? What will we sell? David challenged our entire church body with this challenge.

• As a small group, how do we become intentional about this?

Challenge #1 - we decided to pray as couples all week about what to give or sell. Big or small. We said at the very least, find something to give away and simply give it away. If nothing else, it will give us an opportunity to have a conversation with someone. We discussed bringing updates on Tuesday, when we teach again which will be 10/28/08 (Service night for our group is 10/21/08) Challenge #2 - just like the early church, if there are needs WITHIN our group, we need to let this be the very place we start to meet others needs. We simply discussed the fact that this is a safe place to bring any need you have as a couple or a family. No matter the need, we all agreed that we want this to be a place to help each other. There's no better place to start. That's the recap for 10/14/08. -lb
